Winston's Notes
In the State of Texas you must present a valid ID to buy beer, cigarettes, and in some cases, to simply use a credit card. Valid identification is what we use to prove we are who we say we are. I personally feel this should be a requirement for everyone to carry some form of valid identification. So then, why are the democrats stomping and crying like little babies because we're passing a law to require valid ID before you vote?
We need to take a look at the democrat party and see who they cater to. They claim they cater to the 'little guy', and want to make sure everyone
has a chance to be someone in this country. They claim they've 'got your back' if you vote for them. They also do not care if you are a legal citizen. They want your vote.
As a US citizen, it's my right to vote when turn 18. So what gives the right of someone who has illegally entered my country and is therefore a criminal, the rights of a US citizen? They do not deserve the right to vote here, but the democrats won't stand for it.
We all know about the huge illegal alien problem here in the US, and especially in Texas. The democrat party is supportive of these illegal aliens by wanting to give them amnesty. Now put yourself in the shoes of an illegal alien living in the US. If you could vote, who would you vote for?
Here’s the problem. The democrats want those illegal aliens to vote so they get into office and have power. They want to give the rights of a US citizen to someone who is a criminal citizen from a foreign country. How crazy is this? Where is the commonsense?
You will hear from the democrat party that it's not about illegal aliens, but about poor elderly people who can't spend the few dollars to buy an ID, or have the means to go out and get one. Yet, they can somehow manage to make it to the polls, wait in line for hours, and cast their votes? And if the democrats don't get their way they are going to pull out the race card like they always like to use as a last resort. Oh, you just wait and see. You will hear outcry from Latino organizations calling discrimination left and right. You just wait and see - it will happen.
Then we have corrupt organizations such as ACORN, who in 2008 was tied up in voter registration fraud and endorsed Obama (oh and they got a huge ‘thank you’ payment in the ‘stimulus’ package). This organization, who is unmistakably left-leaning, signs up dead people, illegal aliens, and in one instance a group called Women's Voices, which has ties to ACORN, sent voter registration material to a pet goldfish. Is there any question which party they voted for?
Sorry, no comment from Princess the pet goldfish because she's dead.
Let’s hope our representatives in the House have commonsense and pass this through.
Of course, this is just my opinion.
Texas Senate approves bill requiring voter ID at polls
By TERRENCE STUTZ
AUSTIN – Senate Republicans today pushed through a bill requiring Texans to show a photo ID – or two alternative pieces of identification – before voting.
Democrats shifted their efforts to derail the legislation to the House.
The voter ID measure was approved 19-12, with all Senate Republicans voting for it and all Democrats voting against the bill. A final vote will be required on Wednesday before the proposal is sent to the House.
While the outcome in the Senate was never in doubt after Republicans changed the chamber’s rules in January to ease passage of the legislation, Democrats tried a series of parliamentary maneuvers and objections to slow the proposal down last week and this week.
But Republicans were not to be denied after making voter ID one of their marquee issues of the session.
The bill is given a 50-50 chance in the House, which has 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats.
Two amendments were adopted by the Senate prior to preliminary approval of the legislation, including a $2 million voter education program to inform citizens about the new requirements. In addition, the Senate dropped a provision that required Texans to show a voter registration card along with a photo ID or two non-photo IDs. The registration card would no longer be needed.
An initial vote of approval occurred last week when the full Senate met in an unusual session as a committee of the whole. .
