The White House this morning claimed Captain Planet didn't know anything about the Tea parties. Well, unless he was hiding in a CNN office or Communist China, he certainly knows now. Hundreds of thousands of pissed off, but peaceful Americans rallied against big government and big spending. I joined the Houston crowd and a crowd it certainly was. They completely filled Jones Plaza and hundreds were forced to listen from the sidewalks surrounding the venue. My guess is there were 5000+ there. Local news reports 3500 people so you can always be safe to double it. I did leave early as the event started about 40 minutes late.
I left the Tea Party with a sense of fueled patriotism, a sense that 'We the People' DO have a voice. This is just the beginning my friends.
150 miles away in Austin, talk of Texas secession was in the air:
"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that. My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that." - Gov. Rick Perry
Although I'm sure secession is not on his hot plate of things to do in the next year, and there are laws that actually prevent it, at least there are discussions of this just to show Washington we are fed up.
