The greenies want you to believe replacing your incandescent light bulbs with these ugly, headache causing compact florescent (CFL) bulbs is the answer to world’s energy crisis.
Our congress has passed a bill into law requiring that we all use these environmentally DAMAGING bulbs in our homes by 2014. What’s next? The government controlling your thermostat? Actually that’s not far off on the horizon.
Here are some facts about these stupid bulbs:
- They fade fabrics and paintings over time due to UV emissions.
- They get dimmer and dimmer over their lifetime.
- They don’t work in cold climates.
- They contain the toxic substance mercury, which can damage the brain, lungs, and kidneys.
- Most of them are made in China.
- You can't use them with a dimmer switch and doing so may damage the bulb.
- They can interfere with IR signals, such as remote controls and phones.
- May take up to 3 minutes to reach full brightness.
No thanks, I’ll keep my incandescent light bulb and I don’t care what the government says because I am stockpiling them. I can imagine there will be a blackmarket for these in the future. Once LED’s are efficient and cheap enough I’ll make that switch.
I guess my point here is that the US government is trying to control every aspect of our lives by forcing us to buy products they claim are the best... or are they just being bribed? General Electric, who makes lots of CFL’s, spends more lobbyist money trying to influence our government than any other company.
Enough said.
Here’s a very entertaining video from someone oozing with commonsense, Congressman Poe from Texas:

I sure agree with you on this one. Several years ago before I realized how toxic these things were, I bought three of them for $.88 each. Only one of them actually worked more than two days. I tossed them into the trash and off they went to the landfill. While our government is bent on protecting us against our stupidity and warns us over and over not to dry our hair while in the bathtub, there was no mention of the toxicity of these bulbs on the package.
